Those closest to me call me Maverick, "Mav" for short, which is about the about the coolest thing ever. My background is quite unusual, which I suppose fits my INTJ personality type well, so I recommend reading closely.
I started my career as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, graduating from Vanderbilt University and working in psychosomatic medicine. With the passage of the Affordable Care Act and the boom in healthcare technology startups, I had the opportunity to begin advising on health policy. Through these experiences I (finally) discovered the awesomeness of design research. As a Design Researcher at Microsoft, I spend my days conducting user research (in-lab, online, & field) and meticulously analyzing human behavior (#dreamjob). I possess the spirit of a revolutionary, which I've (thankfully) been able to channel toward advocating for nurse practitioner rights through state and national lobbying and, of course, blogging. |
